About Polaris - Inspired by Waldorf Education
Reverence, Beauty, Truth
Polaris's approach to education seeks to address and educate the whole human being, through a healthy joy of learning, for the present, and for all of life. It is truly an education for the future - for who of us adults could have imagined the world as it is now when we were children?
This is done by bringing a rich and varied curriculum, full of art and movement, cultivating physical dexterity, and later, intellectual rigour, each at the right developmental stage. Bringing subjects at the right time is one of the fundamental principles of education inspired by Rudolf Steiner that is not only more efficient for teaching, but also awakens the joy of discovery in the student. What better preparation for life than to learn about the world, humanity and its achievements, when one is ready and eager to hear about them?
This approach means that in early childhood, the pace and activities are gentle and rhythmical, leaving lots of room for free play, independent discovery, and social interaction, and allowing time to wonder at the world, the seasons, and hear stories.
In the middle years, up to adolescence, there is an abundance of discovery, rich experiences, and fascinating stories and history that the children encounter with the same teacher as a loving authority, leading them through from grade one to grade eight. In these years, the child is addressed through imagination, pictures and direct experience.
In adolescence, the youth now takes full hold of their intellectual capacities, is asked for their own judgment, and can tackle rigorous intellectual issues. The allowance for wonder and discovery in the early years and the middle years, now allows the young person to unfold many inner capacities: developing their values, their morality, their sense of judgment, and awakening intellectual rigour and profound understanding.
Education for the child, as Rudolf Steiner envisioned, awakens in each child capacities for profound thinking, compassion and clarity of feeling, and strength and courage to act according to their values, giving courage and confidence to the young person entering the world.
