Polaris School and Centre is seeking a French teacher or teachers to lead the French Language program at Polaris. This is a contract position with teaching hours ranging from 4 to 12 hours weekly (this can be one or two positions).

Having opened its doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small independent Waldorf-inspired school in the Ottawa area looking for individuals with a pioneering spirit to join our team and growing school community.

The ideal candidate will be a French speaker with either a Waldorf-teacher training certificate, a provincial certified teaching certificate or a French as a Second Language teaching certificate, who feels comfortable teaching French as a second language to combined grade classes.  Knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy and/or Waldorf teaching experience is an asset.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who enjoys working with children, teaching and works well in a collaborative manner.

 Responsibilities:

  • Prepare French language lessons for students in grades 1 to 7, following a Waldorf approach.
  • Teach students using a hands-on, experiential approach. In the early grades French as a second language is brought orally, through the use of songs, stories, rhymes and games.
  • Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with the class teacher.
  • Identify children's individual learning needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, mentoring and workshops as required.

Requirements:
  • A University Bachelor Degree and at least one year teaching experience, or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Familiarity with a vast repertoire of French children’s rhymes, poems, songs, and games, to be used in class that are age appropriate.
  • Previous knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy and/or Waldorf teaching experience is an asset.

Salary:
$65/class
No additional benefits are offered
