Admissions Process

The admissions process is designed to give families time to learn about Polaris, ask questions, and determine whether our school and approach are the right fit for your child and family. The steps are outlined below. If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to reach out to us by email or phone.

Have questions? Contact us at

Step 1: Get to know Polaris (Open House or Tour)

Before a family applies, it is important to become familiar with the school, visit the space, and have an opportunity to learn more about our approach.

To visit Polaris at an Open House or arrange a tour:

Step 2: Complete the Admissions Application

Once you have visited the school, you may complete the Admissions Application and submit the one-time, non-refundable Admissions Fee of $180 for the first child and $80 for each sibling.

  • Payment instructions are included in the Admissions Application.

  • Online application form below.

  • Email admissions@polarisschool.ca to request a hard copy.

Step 3: Meet with the Class Teacher

Once your application has been received, please allow 3 to 7 school days for the class teacher to contact you to arrange a meeting.

  • During this meeting, the teacher will review your application and learn more about your child, their needs, and your expectations as a family. This helps us consider whether Polaris can appropriately support your child and also gives you an opportunity to learn more about the class, our approach, and what your child's school experience may look like. Please note that this meeting is for parents/guardians only and the child is not present.

  • Either on the same day or at a separate time, the teacher will also meet with your child. This gives your child an opportunity to see the classroom, meet their teacher, and begin forming a connection with the teacher and school.

Step 4: Trial period (3 days) for Mid-Year Applicants

For students applying to join Polaris during the school year, the next step is a 3-day classroom trial.

  • The trial gives your child an opportunity to experience the daily rhythm of the class, participate in lessons and activities, and get to know their teacher and classmates. It also allows the teacher to observe how your child engages with the classroom environment and whether Polaris is able to appropriately support their learning and development.

  • An offer of enrolment for a mid-year applicant will only be considered after the 3-day trial has been completed.

Step 5: Acceptance

Following the teacher meeting (and for mid-year applicants, the successful completion of the 3-day trial), your child's application will be brought to the Circle of Teachers for official acceptance.

  • You will be notified by phone or email of the decision.

  • If your child is accepted, an enrolment package will be sent to you and arrangements will be made for a Family Meeting with the school administrator.

Step 6: Attend a Family Meeting

During the Family Meeting, we will review the enrolment contract, financial obligations, volunteer opportunities at the school, and the school's current priorities.

  • This meeting also gives families an opportunity to ask any remaining questions or request clarification before completing the enrolment process.

  • Once the signed contract is returned along with the 10% deposit, your child's place at Polaris is confirmed.

Our 8-Week Trial Period

Choosing the right school for your child and family is an important decision, and there are many factors involved in finding the right fit. Sometimes it is only through experiencing daily school life that a family can know with confidence that a school is the right choice.

With this in mind, Polaris offers all new families an eight-week trial period after enrolment, providing time for the child, family, and school to experience the relationship and determine whether Polaris is truly the right fit.
