A Place Where Childhood Is Honoured
Early childhood is a precious period of growth, discovery and imagination. At Polaris, our Kindergarten offers a gentle transition from home to school within a warm, nurturing environment where children have the time and space to simply be children. Strong relationships with teachers and classmates, together with a predictable daily rhythm, create the security from which children can confidently explore the world around them.
Play Is the Work of Childhood
Creative free play is at the heart of the Kindergarten day. With time, natural materials and open-ended toys, a piece of cloth can become a cape, a boat or the roof of a house; blocks can become a shop, a castle or an entire village.
Through this imaginative play, children are doing important developmental work, learning to communicate, negotiate, problem-solve, collaborate, create and bring their own ideas into the world. Play brings together creativity, language, movement, cognitive development and social-emotional growth.
A Healthy Rhythm
The day moves through a carefully considered rhythm of inward and outward activity. Free play, storytelling and artistic experiences are balanced with movement, meaningful work and time outdoors. Songs, verses, circle games and stories enrich language and imagination, while activities such as baking, tidying, drawing, painting and simple handwork invite children to participate purposefully in the life of the classroom.
This predictable rhythm creates a natural flow through the day and helps children feel secure, settled and ready to engage.
Language, Movement and Imagination
Young children learn with their whole bodies and through all of their senses. Stories, songs, verses and circle activities develop listening, vocabulary, memory and imagination, while movement and gesture strengthen coordination and help children experience language in an active and joyful way. Although no formal academics are brought into the kindergarten classroom, all of the activities prepare a solid foundation, naturally supporting many areas of development, so that the children are ready to move onto the next stage of their educational journey in grade 1.
Seasonal Rhythm
Children spend meaningful time outdoors throughout the year, experiencing the seasons directly rather than only learning about them. Seasonal changes find their way into classroom through stories, songs, crafts and celebrations, nurturing observation, wonder and a growing relationship with the natural world.
A Calm, Screen-Free Childhood
We are mindful of the sensory environment surrounding young children. In a world that can often feel hurried and overstimulating, our classrooms offer simplicity, natural materials, human connection and a phone-free and screen-free school day.
This calmer environment gives children the opportunity to engage fully through movement, touch, listening, imagination and direct experience.
A Foundation for What Comes Next
The goal of the Kindergarten program is not to hurry children toward the next developmental stage, but to give them a strong foundation for everything that follows. Through play, movement, relationship and meaningful participation in daily life, children gradually develop confidence, language, coordination, creativity, social awareness, resilience and a genuine joy in discovering the world.
