Parent and Child

Parent and Child

A gentle beginning for children and the adults who care for them

Our Parent & Child program offers families a warm and welcoming introduction to Waldorf-inspired early childhood. Designed for infants and young children together with a parent, grandparent or caregiver, the program provides a calm and beautiful space where children can explore freely while the adults around them connect, learn and share the joys and challenges of caring for young children.

Young children learn through relationship, imitation and experience. Rather than directing their play, we create an environment that invites curiosity and imagination, with simple, open-ended materials and plenty of time to become deeply engaged. As the children play, adults have an opportunity to observe, connect with one another and explore topics related to early childhood, including child development, rhythm, boundaries, imaginative play, seasonal celebrations and creating a nurturing home environment.

Each morning follows a gentle and predictable rhythm of free play, simple handwork or seasonal activities, songs and verses, story, circle time and a shared snack. These repeated rhythms bring familiarity and security to young children while creating a sense of community for adults and children alike.

At its heart, Parent & Child is a place to slow down and enjoy this important stage of childhood which passes so quickly. It is a time to play, sing, create and connect in the company of other families.

In the first seven years, children learn primarily through imitation. They absorb not only what they see and hear, but the very gestures, mood, and movement of the people around them. This makes the adult environment both at home and in the classroom the most formative influence in early childhood.

“Two “magic” words indicate how children enter into relationship with their environment. These words are imitation and example.”
