Waldorf Grade School Teacher
Polaris School and Centre is seeking a grades class teacher to lead a combined 1 &2 class starting immediately. This is a full-time permanent position, with the teacher then continuing with the class up through the elementary grades to Grade 8.

Having opened our doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small school in the Ottawa area looking for an individual with a pioneering spirit to join our team and growing school community.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who enjoys working with children, teaching and works well in a collaborative manner.


Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be a Waldorf-trained teacher or Ontario-Certified teacher with at least three years of Waldorf teaching experience, who feels comfortable taking on a split grade class. Experience teaching multi-grade classes is beneficial. Note, that either Waldorf teacher training or Waldorf-teaching experience is a requirement.
  • Prepare main lesson blocks and extra lessons for grade 1 and 2 students according to a Waldorf pedagogy and following the Waldorf curriculum.
  • Teach students using a hands-on, experiential inquiry-based approach , interweaving movement and art into the academic subjects. Extra lessons include the teaching of art (e.g. water colour painting) and handwork/crafts.
  • Lead students in activities to promote their physical, mental and social development and their school readiness
  • Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students, parents and the Circle of Teachers and Administration
  • Identify children's individual learning needs
  • Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help
  • Participate in staff meetings, mentoring and workshops as require
Requirements:
• Waldorf Teacher Training Certification through an AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America) certified training centre OR Ontario-certified teacher training certification and at least three years teaching experience in an official Waldorf School.
• Ability to teach in English, other languages are an asset.


​Salary:

• Salaries range from $46K to $56K based on training and experience
• No additional benefits are offered.
