Summer Program Assistant/Camp Counsellor (2 positions available)
Rate: $16/hour     -     35 hours/week     -     8 week contract
Start Date: June 28th 2022
 
Job Description:
The summer program assistant is responsible for ensuring every child is enjoying their time at Polaris’ Summer Program. They are responsible for providing meaningful interaction with campers, ensuring supervision at all times. They are expected to work in cooperation with all staff to implement programs and activities successfully. The program assistant will be familiar with our Mission Statement and have a rudimentary understanding of Waldorf Education as a world wide social and
educational movement.
 
Duties/Skills:
  • Assist Program Leader in delivering a multidisciplinary art-based, outdoor focused program for children aged 4-6 or 7-12.
  • Implement activities and programs on a daily basis: This may include cooperative and community building games, crafts, gardening, storytelling, and snack and lunch time supervision.
  • Ensure campers are constantly supervised including during movement from one activity to another.
  • Provide assistance to the Program Leader as directed throughout the day.
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with each child and their family.
  • Be respectful of property and report any incidents of damage or unsafe environments immediately to the Summer Program Coordinator.
  • Assist in the general maintenance of the classrooms used (including kitchen clean up after snacks and cleaning the bathroom at end of day)
  • Additional administrative tasks may be assigned. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Past participation in recreational programs for children
  • An interest in Waldorf Education
  • Be punctual each day.
 
Canada Summer Job Requirements:
  • Canada Summer Jobs Program is open to young people aged 15 to 30 years.
  • Successful candidates must participate in any questionnaires or evaluations as required by the Canada Summer Jobs Employment Program.

2022-2023 Grade School Teacher

​Polaris School and Centre is seeking a grade school teacher to take a combined grade 1 & 2 class for the 2022-2023 school year. Having opened our doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small school in the Ottawa area looking for an individual with a pioneering spirit to join our team and growing school community.

The ideal candidate will be a Waldorf-trained teacher or Ontario-Certified teacher with Waldorf teaching experience, who feels comfortable taking on a split grade class. Experience teaching multi-grade classes is beneficial.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who enjoys working with children, teaching and works well in a collaborative manner.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare main lesson blocks and extra lessons for grade 1 and 2 students according to a Waldorf pedagogy and following the Waldorf curriculum.
• Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students, parents and the Circle of Teachers.
• Identify children's individual learning needs.
• Participate in staff meetings, mentoring and workshops as required.

Requirements:
• Waldorf Teacher Training Certification or Ontario-certified teacher training certification with at least one year teaching experience in a Waldorf setting and/or similar experience and certification.
• Ability to teach in English, other languages are an asset.

Salary:
• Full-time salary ranges from $46K to $56K based on training and experience.
• No additional benefits are offered.
