  2023-2024 Grade School Teacher

Polaris School and Centre is seeking a grade school class teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Having opened our doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small, independent Waldorf-inspired school in the heart of Ottawa.  We are currently looking for an individual to join our team and our growing and diverse school community.
 
Polaris School and Centre strives to meet the needs of the whole child – head, heart and hands. Using a hands-on and experiential educational approach, our goal is to plant a seed in each child for a life-long love of learning, building a foundation of self-confidence, resilience, creativity and respect for oneself, others, and the natural world around them.
 
The ideal candidate will be a Waldorf-trained teacher and/or Ontario-Certified teacher with Waldorf teaching experience, who feels comfortable taking on a split grade class. Experience teaching multi-grade classes is beneficial.
 
We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who enjoys working with children, teaching and works well in a collaborative manner.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Preparing main lesson blocks and extra lessons according to a Waldorf pedagogy and following the Waldorf curriculum.
  • Teaching students using a hands-on, experiential approach, interweaving movement and art into the academic subjects.
  • Evaluating the progress of students and discuss results with students, parents and the Circle of Teachers and Administration.
  • Identifying children's individual learning needs.
  • Participating in staff meetings, mentoring and workshops as required.
Requirements:
  • Ideally candidates would have completed their Waldorf Teacher Training Certification OR Ontario-certified teacher training certification with at least one year teaching experience in a Waldorf setting and/or similar experience and certification.
  • Ability to teach in English, other languages (especially French) an asset.
 
Salary:
  • Full-time salary ranges from $46K to $56K based on training and experience

2023-2024 Kindergarten Teacher (Full and Part-time)
 
Polaris School and Centre is seeking a lead kindergarten teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Having opened our doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small, independent Waldorf-inspired school in the heart of Ottawa.  We are currently looking for an individual to join our team and our growing and diverse school community.
 
Polaris School and Centre strives to meet the needs of the whole child – head, heart and hands. Using a hands-on and experiential educational approach, our goal is to plant a seed in each child for a life-long love of learning, building a foundation of self-confidence, resilience, creativity and respect for oneself, others, and the natural world around them.
 
The ideal candidate will be a Waldorf-trained teacher and/or Ontario-Certified teacher and/or RECE with  experience working with children aged 4 to 6. Understanding of Waldorf approach/pedagogy is essential.

Responsibilities include:
  • Creating a nurturing environment and cultivating connection with children and parents.
  • Establishing the daily rhythm, including circle and story and meaningful work activities.
  • Observing the children in various developmental domains and bringing observations to parents and the Circle of Teachers.
  • Working collaboratively and cultivating a strong relationship with parents to foster the child’s well being, including parent and teacher interviews.
  • Conducting parent gatherings to share the essentials of Waldorf pedagogy.
  • Participating in staff meetings, mentoring and workshops as required.
  • Lead the admission’s process and complete administrative tasks.
Requirements:
  • Ideally candidates have completed their Waldorf Teacher Training Certification OR Ontario-certified teacher training or ECE certification with at least one year teaching experience in a Waldorf setting and/or similar experience and certification.
  • Ability to teach in English, other languages (especially French) are an asset.
  • Provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector check.
  • Hold current first aid certification.

2023-2024 Kindergarten Assistant (Part-time)
 
Polaris School and Centre is seeking a kindergarten assistant for the 2023-2024 school year. Having opened our doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small, independent Waldorf-inspired school in the heart of Ottawa.  We are currently looking for an individual to join our team and our growing and diverse school community.
 
Working closely with and under the supervision of the ECE Lead & Kindergarten teacher, the Assistant works to create a joyful, safe, warm, and loving atmosphere for the children in our care. We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who enjoys working with children, teaching and works well in a collaborative manner.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Assist the Kindergarten Teacher with both indoor and outdoor activities, such as preparing for activities, including rest time.  
  • Assist the Class Teacher in maintaining the physical environment and social atmosphere within the classroom. 
  • Lead the afternoon care.
  • Observe and document the children’s experience and share observations to the Kindergarten Teacher.
  • Participate in meetings with Kindergarten staff to discuss issues and routines and to share observations.

Education & Experience
  • Have a familiarity with Waldorf pedagogy and best practices.   Having a Waldorf Teaching Certificate (WECAN / Lifeways) is an asset.  
  • Have at least a minimum of one year experience in the childcare setting.  A minimum of one year experience in a Waldorf / Steiner Early Childhood setting is preferred.
  • Be willing to receive instruction and work collaboratively with the early childhood team and school administration.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the completion of all duties and towards students, parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to teach in English, other languages (especially French) are an asset.
  • Provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector check.
  • Hold current first aid certification.

2023-2024 Specialty Teachers

​Polaris School and Centre is currently seeking part-time specialty teachers for the 2023-2024 school year in the following subjects:
  • French as a second language
  • Handwork
  • Music and/or Choir
  • Movement, Circus Arts, etc.
The ideal candidates will have prior teaching experience and be familiar with or have an interest in Waldorf education. Preference will be given to those with Waldorf training and/or Waldorf teaching experience. 

We are looking for talented and motivated individuals who enjoy working with children, teaching and who work well in a collaborative manner.
