Pavuky & Embroidery Workshops with Artisan Bozena Hrycyna

Pavuky-Himmeli Straw Mobile Workshop with Artisan Bozena Hrycyna
Sunday, November 27th, 6:00 to 8:30 pm

Experience the golden light manifest as you work with the simple gifts of wheat straw, linen thread, and beeswax!

You will be shown how to make the most basic elements of a traditional straw mobile "pavuk" (in Ukrainian, or "himmeli"
in Finnish) that you can further embellish with your own personal touch.

"Pavuky" are mobiles constructed of straw prisms, used to trap the bad energy (much like Ojibway dreamcatchers) in the home. This craft harkens from Northern and Eastern Europe and can be found in most places where grain growing (and straw) is a key component of people’s lives. “Pavuk" means spider in Ukrainian, and is considered a benevolent presence-- thus these web-like mobiles bring good fortune and blessings to the home.

Adult Workshop (children 12 and up are welcome with a parent/guardian).

Cost: $45 plus $10 material fee (1 session)
